Dec 22 Much warmer today with but a great 10-15mph breeze. Finished with 16 geese by 9:30...the breeze really brought them in nicely. They finished right in the pocket with most shots in the 10-15 yard range and almost all singles and small groups. The big groups were going to a nearby field that had 10-15K LIVE decoys....that's perfect though, since we were able to shoot our limit quickly and not bother 99.99999% of the birds working the area! We'll be taking a few days off to celebrate Christmas and then be back at it starting Friday...stay tuned!!!

Dec 21 A little warmer today but still great shooting. We set up at the lodge field and worked traffic birds today. Shot 20 by 11:30 and really had a great time! Had some really nice groups of 15+ work in nicely and finish to the pocket! Great shooting, great fun.

Dec 20 Cold again this morning with -5 temps. Hot shooting, however as the Duke Phillips group from Sandy, UT filled 8 limits of geese by 9:30 am after successfully filling 8 limits yesterday! Good hunting, good shooting, good friends just what HPW is all about! We are getting plenty of bird activity and now is the time to get here if you can! Call Bret now at 307 259 2664 to get hooked up with some of the best shooting we've seen in the last couple years.

Huge Congrats to Mike, Bret, and Jason for there hard work as they successfully guides there shooters into the Top 3 Places. Thanks to all the 2Shot organizers as once again this event was a huge success for Santa's Helpers.

November 16, 2008 Put a new pit blind in this week. Corn harvest has been slow due to much needed moisture as of late. Few ducks around but really low numbers of geese. Killing a few ducks but the weather up north could change things quick. Keep checking this page for migration updates and how our hunts are going!

Sept. 11, 08 Today we got some much needed moisture here in the Cowboy state, rained all night. Spent 3hours with Ryan from DU this past week overlooking a new lease we aquired. His knowledge about ducks and habitat was very informing. A thanks to Ryan for his advise and expertise. Sage grouse season is just a few days away. I went out and ran the dogs yesterday and found several new spots for sage grouse. Numbers of birds seems to be as good as ever, the young dogs got schooled by a few birds yesterday but the one very reliable female shorthair nailed two groups quite nicely. I still have a few openings for the Sage grouse season here in Wyoming, so if your going to be in the area and are looking for some great action over pointing dogs gives a call! Jason 307-267-2559

Aug 7, 08 The waterfowl breeding survey has been released and shows overall duck numbers up 11 percent from the 52 year average. This could result in another great waterfowl season for us here in Southeast Wyoming. I still have one opening for the Sage Grouse season, it is Sept. 23. Call us soon as dates are filling fast!

Aug. 4, Been a very busy summer guiding fly fisherman, but guys are getting the itch for hunting as bookings are starting to pick up. Right now its 52 degrees out and I have to admit it feels like a bit of fall in the air. Dove season opens here in less than 30 days. Looking foward to the hunting season. Remember to give us a call or check out this post as the season unfolds for the latest on bird movements and conditions in our area.

6/1/08 High Plains Wingshooters has added a great new preserve hunt for this bird season. Pheasant, Chukar, and Quail are available Aug.15 to March 31... Preserve hunts are excellent ways to introduce a new hunter to the sport of wingshooting. Sharing your passion for wingshooting with someone new is fun and highly rewarding as you turn someone on to a whole new world of dogs, shooting, and upland birds. Book your waterfowl/upland bird hunt by contacting Jason at 307-267-2559

5/28/08 I just got back from Torrington last night and the day was blessed as we picked up two more great lease properties. One property looks to be good for all around bird hunting including snow geese. The other lease is going to be awesome for Canada Geese and ducks. The North Platte River is running super high as land owners are even loosing peices of bank from water erosion. All these spring rains are going to bring an abundance of cover for upland birds. Can't wait to get the bird season started, should be an awesome year!

5/26/08 Prairie Dog shooting is heating up as yesterday was the first sunny day we have had in a while. Seemed likle everywhere I drove they were out in force. Just a reminder as summer is upon us we have some openings for anyone interested in doing a Prairie Dog hunt. High volume shooting at long ranges! Great for sharpening those shooting skills. Still have an opening for the opener of ducks. This hunt is a great combination hunt with early morning blue wing teal, an afternoon of upland hunting fallowed by an evening duck hunt. Book it soon as this date will certainly not last! 307-267-2559

5/22/08 High Plains Wingshooters is adding a pheasant, chukar, and quail preserve for this 08 bird season! These high volume hunts are an excellent way to better your shooting skills and is great for young hunters and young dogs. We offer some limited hunts for doves as numbers permit. This hunt starts Sept.1 and can easily be combined with a great preserve shoot! Give us a call 307-267-2559!

5/21/08 High Plains Wingshooters is hard at work this season, adding new hunting properties to our existing leases. Wyoming has decided to go to a 4 goose limit this upcoming fall. This was somewhat of a comprimise between the once 5 bird limit and the 3 bird limit we had in 07. The 08 Sage Grouse season has been set and is slated for a Sept. 20th opener and will run until Sept.30th. I have 2 openings for this awesome Sage Grouse hunt. Sage Grouse numbers in Wyoming are doing well and we have plenty of these native birds to make your hunt a success. Give us a call as these openings won't last

1/26 Heating up now...geese are moving and hunters are shooting them! Yesterday the wind brought them in low and slow and the DeCastro clan mowed em' down! Weather forecast for up north for mon-wed makes me optimistic that the hunting is going to get great for the next couple weeks. Give us a call we have a couple openings.

1/20 New geese finally arrived on this storm. We haven't had new birds since Dec 8th. If the weather holds like it says we should hold them for a while. I have a couple openings...not many, but if 1 pit load of guys(up to 4) wanted to get in next week I could accomodate you. I'll keep you posted.

12/9 Birds arrived yesterday...in great numbers. We have birds at every pit right now and it is time to get here! Call us and get in a pit right away!!!!!

12/30 Ducks are ridiculous. Limits of ducks every day we hunt for every hunter....been like this for the last three weeks. Geese are below average, but ducks are definitely picking up the slack and making the shooting very fun! We are booked very tight until late January after duck season. If you would like to get in and shoot ducks as well please call now and we'll try to work you in. The schedule is very tight but there is room for a group or two!

1/12 Hunting is really tough all of a sudden. Geese are not here, ducks are not flying and the temps have been up in the 40's. All we need is some more cold weather and we'll be back at em'. Give me a call and I'll let you know what's happening with the birds. The geese will show again and the ducks will fly again....just don't have their schedule in front of me so we'll just keep watching!

1/17 A few birds showed up today....still not enough to get excited about but some cautious optimism for the upcoming weeks. Call if you have questions.
